Gaura Purnima Prasada

FFL Mayapur   Gaura-purnima is the most auspicious day for the Gaudiya Vaishnavas, being the appearance day of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu who was known in His childhood and youth as Nimai, Visvambhar, Gaurahari, Gauranga and Gaurasundar.

Because He was born in Sridham Mayapur, Srila Prabhupada wanted the Gaura-purnima festival to be celebrated in a very extraordinary manner in Mayapur. He desired that thousands and thousands of devotees come to Mayapur to celebrate Mahaprabhu’s birthday. It was also his desire that we distribute prasada profusely to the pilgrims on this occasion.

Till now, there has been sponsorship for prasada for visiting devotees during the three week Gaura-purnima festival. But due to lack of similar sponsorship for prasada for the pilgrims, we can only give them prasada for three days. We serve them full plates of khitchari prasada from 10 am to 5 pm for three continuous days during the festival: (1) Gaura-purnima Adhivasa (the eve of Gaura-purnima),
(2) Gaura-purnima, and (3) Jagannatha Misra's festival. About 20,000 to 30,000 pilgrims take prasada during this time.

But we would like to expand this program to include prasada distribution for one week. Please contribute to this! One is sure to receive the causeless mercy of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu for such liberal distribution of prasada.

Rama Navami

Gauranga Prasada Seva   Sri Rama-navami is the holy birthday of Lord Sri Ramachandra. He is known as Maryada-purushottama for He always set an excellent example of how to be a king, husband and an individual person.

Lord Ramachandra performed many yajnas during His time and gave many charities to Brahmanas, sages and others in need. When He was banished to the forest for fourteen years, He met an old lady by name Sabari who was a very great devotee of His who would constantly wait for Lord Ramachandra to visit her. She would everyday pick sweet and juicy fruits for Lord Rama and taste them to see if they were fit to be tasted by the Lord.
Gauranga Prasada Seva   When Lord Rama actually happened to visit her, she was extremely happy and offered the best tasted fruits to Him. Lord Rama was so pleased by her pure and sincere devotion that He gladly accepted the tasted fruits from her. This shows how the Lord is pleased by the mood of devotion and service attitude. He only sees our devotional mentality and nothing else.

This day of Rama-navami brings us great spiritual asset of devotion in our hearts when we selflessly serve Lord Rama through serving His devotees by feeding them His prasadam.

Aksaya Tritya

School Children (100 Mid-day Meal)   Akshaya-tritiya is a very auspicious day for even a slight amount of religious activity or devotional service rendered on that day grants inexhaustible benefit.

Several important events happened on this day. It is the day Srila Madhavendra Puri applied sandalwood paste on Khira-chora Gopinatha.

Treta-yuga begins on this day. To deliver people from sins, Mother Ganges touched earth for the first time on this day. It is also the appearance day of Lord Parasurama. Sage Vyasadeva began to write the epic Mahabharata on this auspicious day for the welfare of all people in general including women and children. Draupadi, the wife of the Pandavas, received the famous akshaya-patra from Lord Krishna on this day.
It is the culture in India that householders distribute sweets to others on akshaya-tritiya. Householder devotees can take up this great opportunity to sponsor distribution of prasada on this great day.
School Children (100 Mid-day Meal)   When Srila Prabhupada was questioned on what is the prime duty of householders, he said that grihasthas (householders) should feed hungry people before they eat.

For various reasons, grihasthas may not be able to execute this daily, but if they do distribute prasada on akshaya-tritiya day, they will certainly receive inexhaustible benefit. Please take advantage of this exalted opportunity.

Nrsimha Caturdasi

Dhamvasi Prasada Seva   The famous Ugra Narasimha of Mayapur is a very special Deity and is in the standing pose. Therefore He is called Sthanu Narasimha. This is the only Ugra Narasimha Deity in ISKCON. Though He is an Ugra or fierce form, He is actually very kind to His submissive devotees.

ugro 'py anugra evayam sva-bhaktanam nr-kesarikesariva sva-potanam anyesam ugra-vikramah "Although very ferocious,
the lioness is very kind to her cubs. Similarly, although very ferocious to nondevotees like Hiranyakasipu, Lord Nrsimhadeva is very, very soft and kind to devotees like Prahlada Maharaja."
Dhamvasi Prasada Seva   Moreover, having come to Mayapur, He takes on the mood of Mayapur's presiding deity Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He fulfills the spiritual desires of the devotees immediately. Narasimhadeva, knowing His devotees’ struggle to always remember Him and to never forget Him, helps them to do so by removing all the obstacles in their path. Thus the devotees are very attracted to Lord Narasimhadeva and always seek His help to perform pure devotional service without any obstacles.
Here in Sridham Mayapur, the appearance day celebration of Lord Narasimhadeva known as Sri Narasimha Chaturdasi festival is a major festival. A large number of devotees from throughout India and elsewhere congregate in Mayapur to take part in this festival which has been made a national festival.

Srila Prabhupada wanted many such national festivals to take place in Mayapur in order to attract devotees to Sridham Mayapur. Organizing such a festival includes feeding them prasada. Please help us serve the devotees who assemble to worship Lord Narasimhadeva.

Jagannatha Snana Yatra

Sadhu Santa Seva   Sri Snana-yatra is the only day Lord Jagannatha is offered full abhishek with all the abhishek paraphernalia. In Jagannath Puri, Sri Sri Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra are brought to the Snana-mandapa and are bathed by some devotees of the Lord in accordance with their ancient traditions.
However, in Rajapur in Simantadvip, Navadvipa-mandala, this same Lord Jagannatha is present to grace the residents of Navadvipa-mandala with His causeless mercy;
He gives the opportunity to bathe Him to everyone including mlecchas and yavanas. Anyone can come to His temple, take His darshan, bathe Him and honor His prasadam.

Every year around 5,000 to 10,000 people come to bathe Lord Jagannatha. They come from far away places walking, carrying Ganges water, fasting in accordance with the regulations of Vedic culture. Once they reach the temple at Rajapur, they wait for a long time in queue to personally bathe Lord Jagannatha with love and devotion.
Sadhu Santa Seva   Lord Jagannatha is very kind to His devotees, so much so that they can even approach Him for prosperity and opulence. By pleasing Him, what is there that cannot be achieved?

Lord Jagannatha appears on this planet primarily to benedict the living entities through liberal distribution of prasada. Lord Jagannatha Himself likes to eat several varieties of offering (56 items) and distribute them. If anyone sponsors prasadam to feed Lord Jagannatha’s devotees on Snana-yatra day, he will certainly become the rightful receiver of Lord Jagannatha’s limitless and causeless mercy. Please take advantage of this great opportunity.

Ratha Yatra

Jagannatha means "The Lord of the Universe”. Jagannatha’s main headquarters is in Puri, Orissa district. In Puri, the Lord has appeared as Jagannatha to accept foodstuffs and liberally distribute them to one and all as His prasada remnants. In fact, the very name Jagannatha Puri reminds one of His prasada!
Sadhu Santa Seva   The devotees of Jagannatha in Puri cook very delicious offerings for Him several times a day so that He eats constantly. Lord Jagannatha’s remnants are called mahaprasada and honoring this mahaprasada is a very special service. Nobody goes out of Puri without honoring Jagannatha’s mahaprasada. During His stay at Puri for eighteen years, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu honored
Jagannatha mahaprasada every single day, and He took very great pleasure in personally distributing the mahaprasada to His devotees and followers.

Srila Prabhupada introduced the worship of Jagannatha in the West. He also conducted the Ratha-yatra festival in 1967 for the first time in the West, in San Fransisco. Huge quantities of bhoga were offered to Jagannatha and distributed. Now every part of the world celebrates Jagannatha Ratha-yatra in great triumph and distributes Jagannatha’s mahaprasada by which people all over the world are accumulating the causeless mercy of Sri Sri Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra. Honoring prasada means cleaning the heart from all the anarthas and uplifting the soul to a higher spiritual realm.
Sadhu Santa Seva   The same Lord Jagannatha appeared in Rajapur, Simantadvipa in Sri Navadvipa-mandala more than 500 years ago. Here, the Lord accepts these foods and gives His mahaprasada remnants to us. Every year Ratha-yatra is conducted here at the same time as the Ratha-yatra in Puri. And Jagannatha, like in Puri, comes in a Ratha-yatra to a Gundicha temple inside ISKCON Mayapur, and stays for some days.
Those days are a great festival to the eyes. Huge quantities of varieties of bhoga are offered to Jagannatha daily. And the mahaprasada is distributed to thousands of people who come to visit Jagannatha at the Gundicha temple. It’s a great pleasure to serve Jagannatha Prasad. The children, women, elderly people and others take part in cooking, offering and serving the mahaprasada. After a few days, He goes back to Rajapur.

Please take this opportunity to sponsor making various delicacies for Lord Jagannatha and for distributing His mahaprasada remnants to the devotees.

Jhulana Yatra

Sadhu Santa Seva   Sri Sri Radha Govinda Jhulan-yatra takes place from ekadasi till Balarama-purnima of the month of Sravana. The youth members of ISKCON Mayapur community take charge of this program. They begin their hard work a few months before Jhulan-yatra starts and organize it as an attractive, colorful and grand festival. For the festival, they select a proper place for the Jhulan, decorate the entire arena with flowers, colorful water fountain, ponds with flora and fauna, and groves.

They also arrange a stage for cultural events, Harinam sankirtan and artfully exhibit fireworks.
The cynosure of the event are the small Deities of Sri Sri Radha Madhava who are brought in the evenings from Their main temple in procession. An essential ingredient of this festival, as with others, is distribution of huge quantities of prasada for all who attend.
Sadhu Santa Seva   Thousands of people come to Sridham Mayapur to take part in the Jhulan yatra. This festival captivates the minds of everyone. It is marvelous to behold Sri Sri Radha Madhava sitting on the jeweled mantapa and swinging. It is even more enchanting to swing Their Lordships. And it is most pleasing to honor Their remnants' prasada and everybody is happy to receive the prasada at the end.

So if anybody takes up this precious opportunity of sponsoring prasada for this Jhulan-yatra festival,
it can yield the greatest happiness and satisfaction of pleasing Srila Prabhupada and Sri Sri Radha Madhava.

Sri Krishna Janmastami

Sadhu Santa Seva   This is the most auspicious and sacred appearance day of Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The Supreme Lord appeared in the prison house of Kamsa on the lap of His mother Devaki and was carried over to Gokula by His father Vasudeva to the house of Nanda Maharaja. So the next day Nanda Maharaja, the foster father of Krishna, gave unlimited charity to the brahmanas, sadhus, villagers and visitors.

That charity was in the form of food, cows, gold, clothing, grains, etc. Giving all these in charity yields tremendous spiritual benefit for the one who gives charity. Srila Prabhupada writes,
"In the material world we possess riches and wealth in many ways, but sometimes not in very honest and pious ways, because that is the nature of accumulating wealth. According to Vedic injunction, therefore, such wealth should be purified by giving cows and gold in charity to the brahmanas. . . . In this material world it is to be understood that we are always living in a contaminated state.

We therefore have to purify the duration of our lives, our possession of wealth and ourselves. . . . By distribution of charity, we can purify the possession of wealth."
Sadhu Santa Seva   There are many birthdays being celebrated in this world, some with great opulence and some in a simple manner. Why do we celebrate the birthdays of our near and dear ones? Because we love them. Krishna is our supreme father, friend and well-wisher. Therefore, we should organize the best "birthday" celebration for Him, who loves us more than anyone else. And as a reciprocation, we should decorate His house, that is, His temple, and arrange to feed the visitors to His appearance day celebration. Would Lord Krishna be happy if His visitors return to their places with a hungry stomach?
Therefore, we should take up the responsibility to feed Krishna's visitors for the Janmashtami celebrations.
On Janmashtami day, thousands of pilgrims visit our temple throughout the day. As of now, we are able to distribute small cups of khitchari prasada from 11 am till 12 midnight. We also serve anukalpa prasada (prasada that can be honored on ekadasis) at midnight.

We would like to distribute full-meal prasada throughout the day for three days, as we do for Gaura-purnima. Kindly help us serve full-meal prasada to the pilgrims in this manner.

Srila Prabhupada Appearance

Sadhu Santa Seva   Srila Prabhupada is the founder-acharya of ISKCON. As such, he is the foundational spiritual master for all members of ISKCON, whether we consider his disciples, granddisciples or great-granddisciples. His instructions are the basis of the devotional life of devotees in ISKCON.

His Vyasa-puja day or appearance day is very important for us. Though it is the natural duty of all ISKCON members to worship Srila Prabhupada daily, on his Vyasa-puja day, we worship him by hearing his glories, by offering him guru-puja, offering him varieties of bhoga, and feed the devotees and guests with a feast prasada appropriate to his elevated spiritual status.
Sadhu Santa Seva   In the initial days of ISKCON, Srila Prabhupada used to cook many varieties of prasadam himself and served them to those who came to hear his lectures. At the end of every meeting or conversation, he would give out prasada in the form of jamuns or sandesh or rasagollas. Srila Prabhupada actually made it mandatory to distribute prasadam at the end of any lecture, harinam sankirtan and any festival.
Thus it is our duty to please Srila Prabhupada by feeding devotees, pilgrims, guests and others with wonderful prasadam feast
on his Vyasa-puja day. So please take a moment in your busy schedule and think deeply about this service of sponsoring prasadam to please our dear Srila Prabhupada.

Sadhu Santa Seva   Srimati Radharani is the mother of the universe as Sri Krishna is the father. The favorite service of Srimati Radharani is to cook for Krishna under the instructions of Yashoda, Krishna’s mother. Radharani cooks different varieties of foodstuffs for Krishna which she does not repeat again Srimati Radharani’s cooking is so delicious that Krishna is most satisfied and happy!

As the mother, Srimati Radharani is very compassionate to all the living entities. She wants that all living entities honor Krishna prasada. When living entities eat and glorify Krishna prasada, Radharani becomes most pleased. When She is pleased, they will attract Her blessings and thus make great spiritual advancement. This is actually an easy and simple way of attracting Krishna.

Radhashtami, being Radharani's appearance day, is most significant in Sri Mayapur which was directly manifested by Her for Krishna's pleasure.
On this occasion, we would like to distribute Krishna prasada, on behalf of Srimati Radharani, to all visitors for three days. Donate to feed Krishna prasada to them, and be one of the first to receive the causeless mercy of Srimati Radharani!

Sadhu Santa Seva   Dipavali festival is celebrated in great pomp all over India. It is the festival of lights. People celebrate Dipavali spending lots of money buying crackers and burning them while people are suffering by the thousands. But the true festival of lights will have to happen internally, within our hearts. When we engage in devotional service to Krishna, He enlightens us from within:
"To show My devotees special mercy, I, dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the shining lamp of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance." (Gita 10.11)
The darkness is the misfortune and bad karma, and the light is Krishna consciousness. We can enlighten people by engaging them in Krishna consciousness, which begins when one honors Krishna's prasada. So, on this day when Lord Ramachandra returned to Ayodhya after rescuing Sita-devi from the clutches of Ravana, when Lord Krishna was bound by mother Yasoda out of pure love in His Damodara pastime, we can make our life successful by engaging the visitors in Krishna consciousness by sponsoring distribution of prasada for them.

Govardhan Puja

Sadhu Santa Seva   Govardhana-puja is the day Krsna chose to cut off Indra’s ego. Thus He preached to all the vraja-vasis to worship only Govardhana since it provided everything necessary for the cows. So Nanda Maharaja arranged for the puja of Govardhana and the vrajavasis made huge amounts of many different preparations to be offered to Govardhana like rice, puris, chapatis, halwa, sweet bread, sweet rice, rasagollas, all types of milk sweets, etc. for the pleasure of Govardhana. Being very pleased with the vraja-vasis, Govardhana personally appeared to accept their offerings. This puja of Govardhana is also popularly known as Annakuta festival.
In 1974 in Mayapur, on Govardhana-puja day, poor local children were fighting with dogs for the remnants of food from leaf plates thrown out after a Govardhana-puja feast. Seeing the children in this situation, Srila Prabhupada declared that no one should go hungry within a ten mile radius of our temple. And thus prasada distribution was born in ISKCON.

Take advantage of this Govardhana-puja festival to sposor an annakuta festival to Govardhana and distribute the prasada to devotees, pilgrims, visitors, guests and everybody else.

Sadhu Santa Seva   Gita-jayanti is the day when Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, taught Gita to Arjuna in Kurukshetra in the midst of the Pandavas and Kauravas. Since the message of the Gita taught to the sun-god Vivasvan was lost, Lord Krishna very mercifully gave the message again to Arjuna and revived the disciplic succession. Srila Prabhupada has made us most fortunate by giving his purports to the verses of the Gita as Bhagavad-gita As It Is.

This is a fine day to both distribute to the pilgrims both Bhagavad-gita As It Is as well as Krishna prasada. Srila Prabhupada has said that our temple should provide both food for the body and soul. Bhagavad-gita As It Is is food for the soul, while prasada is food for the body. Thus people are benefited in both ways.

We have a desire to distribute copies of Bhagavad-gita As It Is along with Krishna prasada to 1008 pilgrims. Sponsor the distribution of Bhagavad-gita as well as Krishna prasada on this most glorious day in the history of humanity. You will certainly receive the mercy of Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Siva Ratri

Sadhu Santa Seva   Siva-ratri is a very auspicious day connected to Lord Siva. Siva means auspiciousness. Lord Siva is the best of all Vaishnavas, and hence the most auspicious personality. He is a great devotee of Lord Rama. According to the Brahma-samhita, he is both different and nondifferent from Lord Vishnu just as yoghurt is both different and nondifferent from its source milk.
As we learn from the Srimad-Bhagavatam, Lord Siva helps his devotees attain Krishna consciousness. As a spiritual master, he is most kind, compassionate and concerned about the living entities’ progress in Krishna consciousness.
Lord Siva also protects the holy dham from those who are disqualified from entering it. In Navadvipa-mandala, he is manifested in many forms like Hari-hara, Vriddha-siva, Hamsa-vahan and Kshetra-pal. Lord Siva also bestows his causeless mercy upon his worshipper and relieves the worshipper from mundane mentality, and helps him attain pure devotional service unto the lotus feet of Krishna.
Sadhu Santa Seva   Gauranga Prasada Seva, a part of Food for Life Mayapur, was launched on this auspicious day of Siva-ratri. Gauranga Prasada Seva is a program where the guests and pilgrims are fed with free full-meal prasada. Srila Prabhupada wanted that no one go hungry within ten miles radius of the temple. He also desired that full meals be given to all the visitors. And the program to please Srila Prabhupada has begun!

Everybody is invited to be a part of this prasada distribution service and fulfill Srila Prabhupada’s desire. So please take the chance to serve prasada to people on this occasion.
